Version & Recent Enhancement Information
The current version of SarCheck for HP-UX is: 6.02.02
Enhancements to version 6.02.02 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Add some code to speed the QA process
Enhancements to version 6.02.01:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Improve error handling for attempted overflows of the internal process table
- Add -newkey switch
- Elaborate on nproc recommendation & improve algorithms
- Elaborate on nfile recommendation & improve algorithms
- Replace trademark symbol with registered trademark symbol.
- Warn about increases in the size of dynamic buffer cache if there might be a database present
Enhancements to version 6.02.00:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Collect swapinfo statistics, graph and report them
- Add swapinfo stuff to summary table
- Rewrite the parsing of freemem to increase flexibility
- Fix a rare bug causing problems w/freemem graph data
- Change data & gnuplot scripts for capacity planning and disk bar graphs
- Mention tapered end of memory bar on capplan graph
- Rewrite the analysis of dynamic buffer cache size
- Reorder the summary to put hardware bottlenecks first
- Rewrite the quantification of memory pressure
- Rewrite the memory part of the resource analysis section
- Add the number of CPUs and Volume Groups seen to freemem output
- Report on & graph total i/o rate (r+w/s) from sar -d
- Fix 2 graphs where bad data from a reboot is not ignored
- Reduce size of data file for swapinfo graph by 40%
- Put a break in various graphs if a reboot was detected
Enhancements to version 6.01.08 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- The internal table used to store data about fragmented
logical volumes has been made larger again. In rare cases, many
disks which each contain many extents from fragmented
logical volumes would cause the table to become full, and
as a result some data would not be reported correctly.
Enhancements to version 6.01.07 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Enhance algorithm for detecting memory pressure based on
CPU Utilization of the swapper daemon
- If run queue indicates a CPU bottleneck, be sure to
confirm with sar -u activity
Enhancements to version 6.01.06 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Don't recommend an increase in the size of the buffer
cache if despite the poor statistics, the buffer cache
never reaches the current maximum as defined by
dbc_max_pct. Version 6.01.05 was just a beta version of
6.01.06.
Enhancements to version 6.01.04 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Catch any inconsistency between sar and ps ninode data
Enhancements to version 6.01.03 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Don't look at tune.h if 11.23 because bufpages and nbuf
don't matter any more
- Don't refer to bufpages or nbuf if 11.23
- Get lots/des/minfree values from pstat even if 11.23 -
they're missing in kctune
- Check kctune if 11.23 and we're getting info from the
kernel at analysis time
- Redo algorithm to reduce ninode
- Fix a potential ps -elf parsing error
- Change CPUs to "processors" on SarCheck
orderform & -s output
- Change the initialize the fsasync value to -1 since 0 is
a valid value
Enhancements to version 6.01.02 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Don't use the machinfo utility on the PA-RISC version of
HP-UX 11.23
- Fix the way tunable parameter values are collected on
very old versions of HP-UX (10.10 for example)
Enhancements to version 6.01.01 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Support dynamic nfile changes reported by sar -v
- Support dynamic nproc changes reported by sar -v
- Limit reporting of large processes to the first 10
- Limit reporting of runaway processes to the first 10
- Limit reporting of memory leaks to the first 10
- Change max large processes threshold to from 64 mb to
256mb
- Add -dclp, -dcrp, dcml switches and DCLP, DCRP, DCML
parms to control reporting
- Recommend including ps -elf in analysis
Enhancements to version 6.01.00 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd
like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Change logical volume reporting to show as bullets. PVs
with many fragmented LVs were producing paragraphs that
were difficult to read.
- Support GNUPLOT 4.0 as well as 3.7
- Add keyword GNUPLOT to parms file
- Add -vgtbl switch for volume group table as a separate
option from -dtbl switch
- Add -vgtoo switch for volume group table & text as a
separate option from -dtoo switch
- Add columns for disk size, percent full, and fragmented
LVs to disk table
- Add "ms" to table entries for service time
Enhancements will vary from one platform to another. We have
made a conscious decision to avoid using one source tree for
different platforms. This way, the version for each platform can
evolve according to the needs of the users, and we "cross
pollinate" features from one version to another whenever it
makes sense.
