HP-UX Version & Recent Enhancement Information
The current version of SarCheck for HP-UX is: 7.01.05
Enhancements to version 7.01.05 (January 29, 2010):
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Diagnostic info added to help track down a rare problem calculating the date on
a few Itanium 11.3x systems. If your recent copy of SarCheck complains that
it's very old or expired, please ask for this version.
(7.01.04 was never released)
Enhancements to version 7.01.03 (November 20, 2009):
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Change the contact info to show our new address, phone, and fax numbers
Enhancements to version 7.01.02 (October 5, 2009):
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Rewrite inode recommendations because sar's inod-sz field ambiguously stores
either the size of the HFS inode cache or the sum of HFS & VXFS
inode caches
- The agent now collects vxfsstat statistics for future analysis
- Fix cases where SarCheck was using the OS of the system running
analyze9000 instead of the OS in the sar report when calculating
system table size recommendations
Enhancements to version 7.01.01 (August 25, 2009):
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Stop collecting npar & vpar names. We don't need the information and
HP-UX requires root to get this information.
- Fix a bug in trying to reconcile the sar -v inod-sz data with the values of
ninode & vx_ninode.
- Fix a bug in analyze9000 -k, the older way to manage the activation key.
- Add the date to descriptions of sar errors found in multiday files.
- Ignore some bad sar -v data that was being graphed.
Enhancements to version 7.01.00 (June 1, 2009):
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Parse and report on sar -t (tape) data found in 11.3 version of sar
- Change the default threshold for memory leak detection from 200 to 1000 pgs/hr
- Reorganize the ps tables when they become full
- Add PSELFDIR to custom settings
- Change the default thresholds for swapper CPU utilization to be an indication of memory pressure.
Very light CPU usage is not necessarily a sign of memory pressure.
Enhancements to version 7.00.05 (January 23, 2009):
(beta version, most fixes are fixes to previous beta versions)
- Remove dependency on HP-UX to run correctly
- Get value of fs_async from agent output
- Fix a problem printing the CUSTOM SETTINGS header
- Get the number of VGs as well as maxvgs value from agent output
- Get modelno from agent output
- Add REDCOLOR, PINKCOLOR, and HSIZE chgs to cust settings
- Get nbuf from the agent data if it's there
- Detection of 11.3x operating system
- Only do dbc stuff & bufpages if pre-11.3x
- Look for filecachemin/max in agent data
- Get os version from sar report, not uname
- Take a first shot at filecache_min/max recommendations
allowing for values specified in pct, kb, mb, or gb
- Tweak algorithm for detecting dynamic buffer cache on pre 11.3 os
- Obsolete msgmax, msgssz, msgmap, msgseg in 11.3
- Tweak nproc recs, 11.3 supports bigger nproc than <11.3
- Add support for gnuplot 4.2
- Fix nproc / semmnu when a smaller nproc is recommended
- Collect getconf MACHINE_SERIAL, vpar name, npar name
- Add -cs switch to suppress custom settings
- Add support for parmsfile keywords WIDE
- Add support for parmsfile keywords PRP PML PLP DBRP DBML DBLP
- Parms entries to suppress various parameter recs flags = ignore_*
- On 11.3 vhand will do more so increase vhand_cpu_* thresholds
- Update usgtext() and helptext() wording.
- Add agent stuff to ondemand script
- Look for sar -d stats w/ 'r+w/s' and not 'device' due to 11.3 chgs
- Allow for unlimited size of open file table in 11.3+
- Add a table & text of the top cpu using processes
- Fix some stray text showing up with the -csv switch
- Fix error from parstatus if not found in analyze -s output
Enhancements to version 6.02.03 (August 7, 2008):
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Fix a bug in freemem, dbcmaxpct, and dbcminpct reporting
Enhancements to version 6.02.02 include:
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Add some code to speed the QA process
Enhancements to version 6.02.01:
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Improve error handling for attempted overflows of the internal process table
- Add -newkey switch
- Elaborate on nproc recommendation & improve algorithms
- Elaborate on nfile recommendation & improve algorithms
- Replace trademark symbol with registered trademark symbol.
- Warn about increases in the size of dynamic buffer cache if there might be a database present
Enhancements to version 6.02.00:
(Subscription holders: If you'd like this version, ask your sales rep)
- Collect swapinfo statistics, graph and report them
- Add swapinfo stuff to summary table
- Rewrite the parsing of freemem to increase flexibility
- Fix a rare bug causing problems w/freemem graph data
- Change data & gnuplot scripts for capacity planning and disk bar graphs
- Mention tapered end of memory bar on capplan graph
- Rewrite the analysis of dynamic buffer cache size
- Reorder the summary to put hardware bottlenecks first
- Rewrite the quantification of memory pressure
- Rewrite the memory part of the resource analysis section
- Add the number of CPUs and Volume Groups seen to freemem output
- Report on & graph total i/o rate (r+w/s) from sar -d
- Fix 2 graphs where bad data from a reboot is not ignored
- Reduce size of data file for swapinfo graph by 40%
- Put a break in various graphs if a reboot was detected
Enhancements will vary from one platform to another. We have made a conscious decision to avoid using one source tree for different platforms. This way, the version for each platform can evolve according to the needs of the users, and we "cross pollinate" features from one version to another whenever it makes sense.
