Version 7
Features: We have started beta testing of SarCheck Version
7 with the AIX version. Here is an early summary of what's likely to make it into
the first releases of SarCheck Version 7:
- The ability to collect data on one system and analyze it on
another. UNIX versions of SarCheck have always needed to
collect some information from the kernel that they're running on,
and we'll be collecting all of the data so that the analysis can
take place on a different system. As a test, we've been analyzing
AIX data on a Solaris x86 system in our labs.
- Analysis of networking statistics. We're going to
begin analyzing some statistics from netstat and nfsstat, along
with the values of various tuning parameters.
- The -newkey switch. This switch is currently in
the Linux version of SarCheck and has been so successful that we
will be adding it to the UNIX platforms.
- Supression of individual recommendations. We will
provide the ability to turn off some specific recommendations. This
is not included in the first beta versions but it's coming soon.
- More. Yes, there are a number of other features
that we want to add, but we're still experimenting and we'd like to
be a little further along before we start bragging.
Version 7 is an evolutionary improvement to SarCheck and will be available for free
to licensees with valid subscriptions. These subscription holders are also eligible
to become beta testers, and beta testers usually help to influence the product
direction.
