PLAISTOW, NH (February 3, 1997) -- Aurora Software Inc. is shipping version 3 of SarCheck for SCO OpenServer Release 5. SarCheck is a performance management tool designed to assist the system administrators and VARs in the analysis of a UNIX system's performance by translating the output of various monitoring utilities into a plain English report. SarCheck identifies performance bottlenecks, runaway processes, and memory leaks, recommends changes to the tunable parameters and hardware configuration, and quantifies the amount of remaining system capacity.
SarCheck is designed to save system administrators time and to help them learn more about how their systems work, because it explains resource utilization in plain English. The software also helps VARs to identify problems remotely, and to quickly recommend or implement corrective actions. Because SarCheck has been specifically designed with safely in mind, it will make detailed recommendations rather than automatically try to fix problems itself. It will also explain the reasons for its recommendations so that the administrator can understand why SarCheck is making them.
SarCheck reports consist of three sections and a summary. The first section contains recommendations which can be used to improve system performance, including changes to tunable parameters, disk load balancing, and hardware upgrades. The second section is an analysis of all system resources monitored by SarCheck. The analysis section contains insights that can help an administrator, even when no resource bottlenecks were detected. The final section, Capacity Planning, can be used to approximate the amount of capacity left on a system, based on the sar data being analyzed.
A single SarCheck license for SCO OpenServer Release 5 costs $199 and other licensing options are available. Other versions are under development and support for other languages is planned.
