PLAISTOW, NH (February 6, 1995) -- Aurora Software announces SarCheck 1.0, a tool that analyzes the system activity reports produced by SCO UNIX, makes recommendations, and explains the significance of various statistics in a report written in plain English. SarCheck has been designed for the systems administrator who doesn't have time to learn all the nuances of performance analysis and for performance analysts who would like a second opinion.

SarCheck is designed to meet a different need than most other performance tools. Instead of filling the screen with esoteric graphs that require further manual analysis, SarCheck produces a simple report in plain English. The report identifies potential performance bottlenecks, explains how the bottlenecks were identified, and recommends solutions.

For the system administrator with unknown performance problems, SarCheck will identify CPU, memory, or disk bottlenecks and will recommend changes in tunable parameters or hardware, if needed. Performance tuning experts will also find SarCheck a useful tool for easily extracting important information from sar reports and for checking the relationships between tunable parameters and system activity.

The data used by SarCheck is collected with tools that are part of the SCO UNIX operating system. "We've made a conscious decision to build a resource analyzer, instead of another resource monitor." said Don Winterhalter, president of Aurora Software. "There are already enough good monitoring tools out there. What's missing is a tool that translates all that data into English."
