Free Tool for System Administrators

(January 29, 2003) The folks at Aptitune Corporation have provided another contribution to the Sys Admin community. Aptitune has made their Dmap tool for Solaris SPARC, available to System Administrators, free of charge. Dmap is a Disk Mapping tool that helps to identify device names on large Solaris systems. The Dmap tool converts sar disk device names to the more descriptive cXtYdZ format, eliminating the drudgery of doing this manually. System Administrators have deemed this a valuable tool for systems having large numbers of disks on multiple controllers.

Aptitune Corporation is the owner, developer and distributor of SarCheckTM, the UNIX performance management tool for system administrators. SarCheck is designed to assist administrators in the analysis of system performance by translating the output of sar and ps-elf, in a plain English report. SarCheck identifies bottlenecks, runaway processes and memory leaks, and recommends changes to tunable parameters and hardware configurations. The Dmap tool is a spin-off of technology developed for SarCheck. SarCheck runs on Solaris SPARC, HP-UX, AIX and SCO OSR5 Unix platforms.

To acquire the free Dmap tool or for more information on SarCheck, Contact Aptitune Corporation, Tel.: (603) 382-4200 or visit our web site at http://www.sarcheck.com.
